Must See TV

Looks like BET is finally moving beyond music videos and investing in some original programming. BET's reality docu-drama Baldwin Hills will explore the lives of 12 upper middle class African American teens as they grow up in Baldwin Hills—an upscale black neighborhood in Los Angeles where professional athletes, television and film stars, doctors, lawyers and engineers reside. This reality show will focus on kids who split their time between school, the beach, pool parties, high-end shopping and driving their daddy's or their own Benz. Baldwin Hills premieres Tuesday, July 10th, @ 10p.m. ... hm, we'll reserve comment until then.

The design duo that we've come to love for their tailoring presented a classic collection spunked up with a metallic and monochrome palette. The big metalic belt that the first model is wearing will be a big trend this year.

Evoking images of a garden (the runway looked like a perfectly manicured lawn grass) Gideon's MTNDFW collection was reminscent of the 60's with pieces like capri pants and a-line silouetes. Warming up the tartan print from the winter collection (www.mimimagazine.com/november2006/02-08-durbanfashionweek05.html), the plaid was much more inviting in warm bright summery colors.

Remember actress Terry Pheto from the Oscar winning movie Tsotsi? After seemingly remaining under the radar for a while, MIMI found out that she's really just been keeping busy on television (which is where she started) on the SABC township soap opera Zone 14 (a role that Terry had pre-Tsotsi). For those of you who are waiting to see Terry back on the big screen, look out for her in the movie that's been generating buzz, Goodbye Bafana, the story of Nelson Mandela’s friendship with a Robben Island prison warder, where she plays the role of Nelson Mandela's daughter.
