Introducing ... Lemi Ghariokwu, Renowned Album Designer for Afrobeat Legend Fela Kuti

Written By: MIM!—Artist Lemi Ghariokwu may be one of the most prolific album cover designers of all time, having illustrated over 2,000 albums for musicians such as Bob Marley, Gilles Peterson, and Antibalas. But he’s most well known as the man behind the artwork for the late Nigerian afrobeat star and political activist Fela Kuti's albums. Lemi designed more than 25 album covers of Kuti's in 19 years including album covers for Zombie, Yellow Fever and No Agreement. An incredibly impressive career considering Lemi is a self-taught designer. And Lemi has no plans of stopping anytime soon; he says, "As a creative mind, I see myself as a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars having a divine role to play in the upliftment of humanity and it’s intrinsic values. I am a simple and open minded individual looking to make friends, interact and share experiences of life from across the globe irrespective of backgrounds, race, creed, origin, sex, age, social status, culture or otherwise."
