Africa Online: The Bridal Bliss Edition

Written By: MIM!—Even though Valentine's Day is but one day in the month of February, we consider the entire month as a month of love. In the spirit of celebrating love, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite African bridal websites.

1. Wedding Nouveau @ www.weddingnouveau.com. This blog, created by Fri (a Cameroonian living in Los Angeles, California) "is a cross cultural style guide for today’s bride. It features images taken by some of today’s sought after photographers documenting real weddings of interracial/ multicultural couples that dare to dream outside the box. Along with tips on different traditions, trend breakers, new wedding fashion styles that merge modern with tradition and creative ideas, Wedding Nouveau captures the unique essence of fusion weddings." Our favorite part of the blog: Fri's beautiful inspiration boards.

2. Ijorere, The Invitation @ www.ijorere.com/wordpress. Although Ijorere (created by Nigerian designer Ola-Tokunbo) specializes in creating one of a kind, African inspired invitations for your grand day (Ijorere, You're Invited), the company's website also includes galleries of the weddings where its special invitations were used. Our favorite part of the site: the real-life wedding stories.

3. The African Bride @ www.niaonline.org/bride. The African Bride "strives to give African alternatives to the traditional white wedding. It presents information about the wedding traditions of Africa’s numerous cultural groups and [shares pictures and videos] of African traditional and African-inspired weddings." Our favorite part of the site: articles about the socio-political and cultural aspects of African weddings.

@ Anonymous: Thanks for letting us know about Sugar Weddings (www.sugarweddings.com); what a great resource for would-be Nigerian brides.
